Departure from Egypt and Home Flight

When your stay in Egypt is over and your departure day is coming, be ready for it. To have your flight home as smooth as your vacation was, we have some tips for you.
What should I do if my arrival card with a visa has been lost? Is the excess weight in my luggage really a problem? How much cigarettes can I take out? There are many more questions associated with the last day of your stay...

Our advice:
The most important thing is to make sure that none of your travel documents are missing. That you have your passport with a visa stamp or ID card and also an airport arrival card with an entry visa. Lost passports or identity cards (if they are travel documents - accepted for citizens of Belgium, France, Spain, Italy and Portugal) should be registered with your embassy so that you can receive new documents to travel.

If you lost your airport arrival card with an entry visa, contact your travel agent at the airport to help you. You cannot leave the country without stamping your entry visa.

Once your documents are sorted, confirm your flight with the airline or travel agent - this is even required in the flight documents that you do it the day before your scheduled departure.

The luggage
The luggage weight on departure often gives you a real headache. Did you shop too much and you are not sure that you will not exceed the limit? The exact weight of the luggage is given by the airlines and you can find it in your flight information. The weight for charter flights is between 15 (TUI Fly) and 20 kg. The low cost airlines offer the flights cheaper, but only allow basic baggage.

If you already know that you will have more weight, it is better to pay the airline extra kilograms than rely on "tips" at the check-in counter. Once you've gone through with overloaded luggage, that doesn't mean you'll do it again ... A pound or two isn't a real problem, but if you expect more, it can cost more to check in than overweight booked with the airline in advance.

When you check in your baggage, make sure the baggage sticker you get back is correct (name and flight). It is very important as it is an only document that you can use to check your luggage.

Security checks
There are really a lot of security checks at the airport before you get on the plane. Be patient but also careful when it comes to personal belongings.

If you have valuables with you, you should collect everything in your handbag and let it go through the scanner instead of constantly putting it in the boxes. It can easily get lost with traffic in the area.

When shopping in the duty free shop, keep in mind that the amount of goods you can take with you from Egypt may not be the same as the amount imported into your country. Check the duty-free rules at the arrival location. Your luggage can be opened and checked at any time at the arrival airport. According to European law, you are only allowed to bring 1 pack of cigarettes (200 pieces) per person / per passport. Everything else needs to be "used" in your luggage - open cartoon, etc. Make sure you know the rules of your destination country.

Illness
If you are out of luck and get sick on vacation, make sure you are fit to fly or get a recommendation from your doctor for the flight. Be aware that there is a doctor at the airport who, if he thinks you can't fly, can always prohibit you from flying.

If you are carrying medication on board, you must show it to the security checkpoint (in the transparent plastic bag). For some medications that are not approved or strictly controlled in Egypt, you need confirmation from your doctor and you can be sure that the amount will be looked up.

If you had an injury and received the cast, it must be split. For some conditions (after hospitalization) you may be asked for a Fit To Fly certificate.

If you need a wheelchair service, you can also get this at the airport. You can confirm this in advance with Tour
Operator.

Pay attention to alcohol consumption on the day of departure as the cabin crew can refuse the passenger under some circumstances.

Ticket and visa
When you get to the check-in desk, make sure you have your ticket with you. If you have an e-ticket, make sure when booking that the name on the ticket matches the passport. Even small spelling mistakes can stop you for a while. The check-in desk closes one hour before the flight.

It is worth mentioning that plane tickets are not sold at counters or at airports such as Hurghada, Marsa Alam or Sharm El Sheikh. These mostly operate the charter flights.

If your stay in Egypt lasts longer than 3 months, you can no longer use a charter flight, but must book a regular flight. Please inform yourself before buying the ticket. Also pay attention to the validity of the entry visa. It is only valid for one month. If you fly with a defective visa, a penalty fee will be charged.

This does not apply to adults over the age of 60. You are exempt from issuing a new visa or a penalty fee.
Please note that there are no additional fees on departure (as a departure tax) at the airport as there is a lot of confusing information about it.

We wish you a pleasant flight home!
